Rock Band 2 vs Guitar Hero World Tour

January 31, 2009 · Filed Under Tech News · Comment

Ever since their first Guitar Hero game release, Activision and RedOctane, publishers of Guitar Hero have been the top players in the music game industry, until just 2 years after their first game, Rock Band was released into America, this then became a mighty competitor.

Harmonix were the original developers of Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero 2, but after the release of Guitar Hero 2, Harmonix moved onto a new publisher, MTV Games and EA to see if they could find bigger better thigns, which they did. After the old developers, Harmonix left, new guys Neversoft moved in and started to create a new game, Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock, this was then released in the later part of 2007. The game proved to be a winner, until later that year, Harmonix came back into the business with their new game Rock Band. This game featured a whole new range of instruments including a guitar, drum set, bass and mic.

After a year of Rock Band being release, the competition started again because in November 2008, both publishers, Activision and EA both released a new music game into the market, just in time for Christmas. Activision has Guitar Hero World Tour and EA have Rock Band 2, let the battle commence.

For Guitar Hero, this was a whole new venture for them, a new range of different instruments that they had never made before, but after seeing the end result, it was clear that they hadn’t cut any corners. Their new drum set has 5 pads and a peddle whereas the Rock Band kit features only 4 pads and a peddle, their guitar also features a new touch bar which allows finger tapping during guitar solos. Aswell as a whole new range of shiny instruments, the game features a music maker where you can create and share your own songs.

From the Rock Band 2 side, Harmonix have not changed the instrument set up much. They have improved the drum set by making it velocity sensitive, basically the harder you hit the pad the louder the sound in game makes, they also changed the foot peddle to metal as people found they broke the plastic one. Apart from a few tweaks, not alot has changed instrument wise.

On the actual game side of things, they haven’t got a music maker, however, they do have one great thing that Guitar Hero does not; a huge selection of downloadable songs on top of their 80+ song set list. This also gets better, any songs that you have already downloaded for Rock Band 1, are still compatible with Rock Band 2 and appear on the set list when you load up the game. Another advantage is that for a small fee, under $5, you can transfer almost all of the 70+ Rock Band 1 songs onto Rock Band 2, giving you a minimum of 160 songs on Rock Band 2.

Now that the advantages to each game have been said, now comes the difficult part, deciding which one to get. With Christmas closing in, many people will just be choosing one game rather than both, plus many people will lack the space for 2 sets of instruments.

As both instrument sets are compatible with both games, many people will have to choose whether they want the larger and more expandable set list of Rock Band, or the new features and suited up instruments of Guitar Hero.

Although it’s a totally open stage, it’s hard to tell which game will come out on top. I personally prefer Rock Band 2 over Guitar Hero World Tour simply because of the very expandable set list and the layout of the srceen.

New Wii Music Game Provides Fun and Learning

January 26, 2009 · Filed Under Tech News · Comment

A new era of console games called the Nintendo Wii has gained much popularity in the past few years. This is because it features a wireless controller that allows you to actually act out, or participate in certain games, which revolutionizes the old way of playing other game consoles. Since the Nintendo Wii controllers detect motion, the players must move around in order to interact with the game. The idea for the Wii interactive games came from the fact that traditional games required only sitting. Wii wanted to allow players the chance to get up and be a part of the game.

One of the newest Wii games is the Wii Music game. The game allows you to play up to sixty different instruments, and pre-existing knowledge of instruments and music is not necessary. Unlike “Guitar Hero” where you have to follow the picture on the TV screen, with the Wii all you need to do is to imitate playing the instrument, using the Nunchuk controllers and the Wii Remote. With the wii music game, it is easy to play a song just using simple motions. You pick the song you want to hear and then choose whether to make it into a rock song or classical music. You can even add a Latin theme to the song.

The Wii Music game has several settings that will allow you to train or improve your jam sessions, which can include several of your friends or even online bands. Modes such as video playback can help you transform into a master music.

With the Wii recording, you can record your jam session and send it to your online friends to view and play along, and then they in turn can send the music back to you, until you have a perfect recording. The Wii music game can even provide you with different camera angles making playback fun.

The music is not all that you can do with the Wii Music game. You can test your ears, from high to low tones, by taking a quiz. You are able to play notes as well, when the song allows it. With another command, you can conduct your own orchestra. Point to a particular section of the orchestra to get them to play, and you can use the controller just like the conductor’s baton. Imagine leading the horn section to play forcefully while asking the violin section to play softly.

If you own Wii Fit, you can place your feet on the Balance Board which will work as pedals for bass drums and cymbals. Wii Music comes with a menu of songs included, but the fun is in exploring your musical talents to see what you can add do them.

If you are looking for ways to improve your own music you should try the Wii Music game. The Wii music games makes it possible for people to play an instrument without having to take the time out to really learn all the details and techniques. If you would like to explore your musical talent in a fun and non-intimidating way, you are sure to enjoy Wii Music.

Playstation 3 and The Market

January 26, 2009 · Filed Under Tech News · Comment

With the current console battle in a full blown war, we take a look at the Playstation 3 and its huge price tag. Alot of people are running around saying the PS3 does not deserve a high price, but is this true? There is no way!

The PS3 is a powerful console and although the price is huge and may be a lot bigger than its rivals, the three systems cannot, and should not really be compared. There is definatley a huge war going on between the major consoles. But for an avid gamer you will be losing out on a lot if you do not purchase yourself all three of the top consoles, which are PS3, Xbox 360 and the Wii. We will now take a look at why you need all three.

Playstation 3
The massivley successful Playstation brand is much loved, and to be an honest person the play station 3 has not let anyone down. Everyone says the games console is costly, but do you actually look at what you are getting. A hard drive, probably a console with the best rendering of graphics, top titles and not to mention the Blu-ray. A blue ray is very pricey compared to a PS3.

Xbox 360
The 1st system to launch has a huge advantage over its competitors and that is very much great progress. People who are making the games know how to manipulate the Xbox 360 to get the best from it. Let alone to mention that it has a lot more games than the other two.

Wii
The Nintendo Wii revolutionised playing consoles and games and with that came a new world of experience. Apparent a lot of the games or titles may not be serious, they are very exciting to take control of. The wii is a superb family console that everyone can enjoy.

As you can see from the above all consoles have their own advantages, but one of the main benefits is the broadness of the games. Most games only have sole rights to each console, so not obtaining all three could see you missing out on a great title. You should 100% consider purchasing the PS3.

The Playstation 3 is the third generation of the groundbreaking Sony gaming system, and was designed to build on the highly advanced technology of the first two incarnations. The Playstation 3 came to market in the United States in the Autumn of 2006 and quickly sold out in stores across the world. In the first 24 hours of being onsale, the system sold nearly 100,000 units.
