Clean Up Your System With A Batch File Renamer

February 20, 2010 · Filed Under Computer Software

It’s something that happens to everyone, suddenly all the files in your computer become a little messier than you hoped they would be. Sure, you may have the best of intensions when you first have your computer set up.

In the beginning you may have kept all of your picture files in one directory. Back then you probably tried to make sure that every file was named so you knew exactly what it was as soon as you looked at it. As time went by, that system may have gone by the wayside as you were putting new pictures into your computer. The problem may have started when people began e-mailing you pictures that had different filenames than the system you would regularly use.

Soon you’ll have more files that don’t make sense then do make sense and that means it’s time to rename files to help get them organized once again. There are some options in how you can do this.

The hard way is naming each file, independently, and moving them individually to the directory where you want them to be located. If your computer is mostly organized, and you only have a couple of files that need name changes or location changes this may not be so bad.

But it will take way too long to do them individually if you have a lot of files that need to be moved or have a name change. A batch renamer program is the way to go in this case. With this kind of program you can change a lot of filenames at the same time. For example, if you have a bunch of pictures of your last family reunion that are not named properly, you can highlight all of those pictures at once and with this type of file renamer change all of their names to something that makes sense in seconds. Forget the old way of changing files one at a time, using this type of program lets you get everything sorted out in no time flat.

This way you can just quickly look through the architecture of your computer, highlight all of the files that are out of place, and quickly put them just where you want them to be with their new name.

With the help of a batch renamer program you will be much happier with how organized you are and how easy it is to keep your computer that way.
