Upcoming video games to get excited about

April 8, 2009 · Filed Under Tech News · Comment

With so many big releases like Halo Wars and Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X already come and gone, there is a huge amount of games yet to be released this year, so I thought this would be an appropriate post. So, that said, here are some of the games that you should be looking forward to throughout the next coming months and the entire year really.

  • Residient Evil 5 is the first one really worth mentioning, however, I personally won’t be buying this game, I just find it stupid how you can’t move and shoot or reload and shoot, but that’s just my opinion. I know that when this one comes out on March Friday 13th, it will be a massive hit.
  • Crysis: Maximum Edition - This isn’t a new game, but a box set of all the games rolled into one, you get Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars (the multiplayer) and if you haven’t yet played any of them, that will be the perfect box set for you. The game is due for release on March 20th.
  • Singstar: Queen - March 20th.
  • Aliens Colonial Marines. Not much has been said or relesed about this one, but my hopes are high for it. Odd release dates though for it, March 27th for PC and then unconfirmed for PS3 and Xbox 360.
  • Batman: Arkam Asylum. Me being a Batman fan I hope this is going to be a good one. By the looks of the trailer you have to fight your way around the asylum. Looks like separate release dates for PS3 and 360, not convinced though.
  • The Godfather 2 - 10/04
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. If you coulnd’t put down the first Chronicles of Riddick game, then you should love this one. with voices of Vin Diesel and still with a bit of FPS and hand combat involved, it should be a good game. Hitting the shops on April 24th.
  • Fuel - I have only seen a few screenshots for this one, and it looks alot like the PS3 game, Motorstorm. I just hope that it’s going to be a good racing game.
  • X Men Origins: Wolverine. We’ll just have to wait and see if this is going to be a good one as it’s a move game, some can be good and some can be poor.
  • Terminator Salvation - 22/05
  • Prototype - A strange one, you play as a genetically modified person who now has super powers, might be good. Set for release in June 2009
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction - This game has been in development for a long long time so it really carries alot of expectations but lets hope it will be released when they say this time, June 2009.
  • The Sims 3 - Although alot of people play the Sims games, I hate them, simply because I think they have milked it too much. The amount of expansions they have is insane, but I know people will buy it so here it is in the list.
  • Ghostbusters - Who ya gonna call? June 19th
  • Dirt 2 - 9/09
  • Tekken 6 - 25/09
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - This game was only announced recently but it will definitely be a massive hit, with the amount of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s sold and the amount of awards it picked up, this sequel will hopefully be even better.
  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2

It looks like a pretty good upcoming year for games. Hopefully no game publishers or developers will go bust, fingers crossed.

Improve Your Golfing with the Wii

March 12, 2009 · Filed Under Tech News · Comment

People love to play computer games, whether a fighting or sports game it all about winning. But the Nintendo Wii has brang so much more to the industry then any other console, now instead of just playing a game and excersicing out your mind, you can now also tire out your body.

I myself play golf a lot and to be honest I did not used to be very good, no matter what golf clubs or golf putters I purchased it just did not help me. Well a few months back I decided to buy a Nintendo Wii and it came bundled in with Wii Sports which included a Golf game. Obviously being obsessed with golf I decided to play this and it was just as realistic as any real game I have ever played.

After a few weeks of playing the game I felt very confident in my new found ability to play the game so decided to join a tournament. I did not feel I would get very far, but to my surprise I got through the first round and then the second and third, I was in the semi finals but unfortunatley I got eliminated out by a professional golfer who had probably had a decade and more of practice.

I was not going to get myself upset as I have gone from knowing nothing to playing in a major competition from the help of a games console. I do recommend that if you are looking to get into any type of sport to go out and grab yourself a Nintendo Wii, within a few weeks you will have mastered your game. The wii and a nice set of golf equipment is all you need.

The Modest Wii Console

Wii Games

When Nintendo was designing the Wii console they had a lot of options and a lot of things to consider.  This was supposed to be the next revolution in video game play so there was a consideration to making the Wii console mirror its place in history.Would shiny silver parts, blinking lights and all sorts of buttons add or subtract to the design?  Should it be the biggest game system you ever saw or should it be something not so outstanding? The console had to be designed to fit the purpose of the Wii.To bring back the video game crowd that had become alienated was the purpose the Wii was created. It had to have something for everyone.  It was not supposed to be intimidating by any standards. An image that would be accepted by common people had to replace the image of the power user that had been previously used. The Wii console had to have a friendly, easy to use feel to ensure people would want to and be able to use it.  It needed to be unassuming and at the same time have that powerful look about it.  What they settled on was a perfect mix of the look of tomorrow with the needs of today.

While the console resembles an upright DVD player, it’s sleek look also feels revolutionary. The sleek lines and unassuming shape and look of the white Wii console are repeated in the accessories being developed.  There is a consistency about the Wii console that allows anyone to feel like they can not only set it up and use it but potentially master it as well.  It is a perfect design that gives off energy but at the same time allows people to shine their own light on it and make it their own.

Hands Off Handling

The necessary wireless controllers feel and look similar to the television remote control.  Everything about the Wii console is both new and exciting along with being old and familiar.  The design is the perfect mix of what everyone knows and what Nintendo wants everyone to see in the future. The four years of hard work it took to create the Wii console shows.

The Wii console does not require a college degree to use it, nor does it make you feel that way. This new game console fits perfectly within a market that had been isolated for years.

Buying the Best Gaming Console

March 7, 2009 · Filed Under Tech News · Comment

If you’re looking into buying a game system, you’ve probably spent at least a little debating which system to go with. Since all three big systems are excellent, how to you pick between them?

Loooking closer at each system, we can learn a lot. Each one has it’s own pros and cons, which we will examine. To make a choice, it all comes down to your personal preferences.

We shall look at the Wii first. When the Wii broke onto the market, it completely changed the world of gaming. People who aren’t into gaming at all think the Wii is great. Grandmothers, wives, girlfriends: they are all playing video games for the first time.

This is no surprise: the Wii is a blast! The tilt and position detecting controller of the Wii offers a completely different type of game play. Quite an amazing system. Unfortunately, this innovation doesn’t extend to the Wii’s graphics, which are rather pedestrian.

The PS3 laughs at these problems. This system pulls out all the performance stops, giving the best graphics possible. Games look gorgeous on the PS3. Some of the most popular gaming series are available for it, making it an even better choice.

The Xbox 360 is also very high performance. The Xbox 360 provides good performance with an ever growing library of games. It comes in several system configurations that give you different levels of functionality out of the box. It also has large 3rd party support. If it’s accessories you’re looking for, you will not be disappointed.

To choose between all of these consoles, it’s all about the games. Most people like the games offered by one particular system more than others. If you want games with a totally new style of play, get a Wii. If you like Japanese franchises, most are on the PS3. If you like shooters, the Xbox 360 controller makes these a blast to play. Figure out what you like to play, and work from there.
